Hanover Invites Community To Honor 9/11 Through Service

Hanover County is inviting residents to join County employees and Americans across the nation in giving back to their communities during the 9/11 National Day of Service on Friday, Sept. 11.

Residents can volunteer alongside Team Hanover on a variety of projects benefiting the local community. Opportunities may include delivering meals to older adults, cleaning and beautifying public spaces and assisting local nonprofit organizations.

Last year, community members joined nearly 300 County employees in completing 27 projects throughout Hanover, contributing a combined 828 hours of service.

Observed annually, the 9/11 National Day of Service transforms a day of remembrance into a day of action. It honors those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, while carrying forward the spirit of unity and service that emerged in the days that followed.

“September 11 reminds us not only of tremendous loss, but also of the way Americans came together to support one another,” said County Administrator John A. Budesky. “Through service, we can carry that spirit forward here in Hanover by strengthening our community and helping our neighbors.”

Residents who are unable to volunteer on Sept. 11 are encouraged to find another opportunity to serve and share their efforts as part of Hanover’s broader community impact.
